INTRODUCTION

Russian President Vladimir Putin has refused to take part in his Skies Treaty and has declared to strengthen his country's nuclear power.

This step has raised tensions about the entire weapons race and the possibility of clashes with other countries. In this article, we will know about Putin's promise and the security of the world.
Vladimir Putin declared the motive of strengthening his nuclear power on 15 January 2021
Russia declared this after refusing to participate in the Open Skies Treaty, and the agreement allows unarmed inspections to fly over the signature area. The move raised concerns about the possibility of a new arms race and conflict with other countries.

What is the Open Skies Treaty?

The Open Skies Treaty is an international agreement. It allows the surveillance flight to fly from the signatory area. This treaty was signed in 1992 and enforced in 2002. The motive of this treaty was to bring transparency and mutual trust between  the countries.

Why did Russia suspend its participation in the Open Skies Treaty?

In November 2020, the United States declared its intention to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty, citing Russian non-compliance as the reason for its decision. Russia shrugged off these allegations and instead accused the United States of violating the treaty. Following the US withdrawal, Russia suspended its participation in the treaty in January 2021.

What are the implications of Putin's vow to strengthen Russia's nuclear forces?

Putin's promise to strengthen Russia's nuclear forces has raised concerns about the possibility of a new arms race and war with other countries.
Some experts worry that the move could escalate tensions between Russia and the United States, which already have drained  because of ongoing disputes over Ukraine, Syria and other issues.

How will this decision affect global security?

Strengthening Russia's nuclear forces could have significant implications for world security. Some experts believe that the move could encourage other countries such as China and North Korea to pursue their nuclear programs. Additionally, it may increase the risk of accidental nuclear war or deliberate conflict between nations.

What is the international community's response to Putin's vow?

The international community has expressed concern over Putin's promise to strengthen Russia's nuclear forces. The United States has called for renewed arms control talks with Russia, while NATO has urged Moscow to return to compliance with the Open Skies treaty. Other countries, such as Germany and France, have also expressed concern and called for dialogue between Russia and the West to reduce tensions.
